What kind of barcode do I need?

What kind of barcode do I need?

barcode questions

The main forms of barcode for retail are the UPC and EAN barcode types. Both formats are valid in South Africa although most retailers prefer to use the EAN barcode symbology. These barcodes are used for general products that you would purchase over the counter; such as food items, stationery, cleaning products and the like.

However – if you are publishing a book, magazine, newspaper or a similar publication you will need to apply for an ISBN or ISSN barcode. The number is supplied by the National Library or ISSN organisation. SA Barcodes can facilitate this process and design your barcode graphics for you as well.

These are the most commonly used barcodes, but do feel free to get in touch if you want any further information on what type of barcode you need.
