Do I need a barcode?

If you are looking to sell your products at any retail store (be it physical or online), then yes, you do need a barcode.

Depending on what product you’ve created and are now looking to sell, you may need a different type of barcode. For retails products such as food items or even CDs, a UPC or EAN barcode will be need. For novels or once off publications, an ISSN barcode.

Before purchasing your barcode, always ensure that your intended retailer will be able to accept your barcode onto their product registration system. Some larger retailers such as Amazon or Pick ‘n Pay rely on the GS1 barcode system and therefore may request that you register codes directly with GS1.
