mozambique flag

From Maputo to Beira, Quelimane to Nampula. If you are situated in Mozambique, you can rest assured that although SA Barcodes is based in South Africa, we can assist you with your barcoding needs. This is thanks to our efficient online system that makes for easy communication, easy payments, and most importantly, easy delivery of our fully GS1-registered barcodes to you via email.

With the economy growing at a rate of about 7 percent annually, Mozambique as a whole has been bustling in its development. Natural gas resources were discovered in 2010, and since then, your country has seized the investment opportunity. And with so many small, privatised businesses cropping up, needing barcodes in Mozambique becomes a part of the equation.

The process of acquiring a barcodes for Mozambique may seem a daunting task at first as you enter the industry. There is a lot of information out there – with plenty of varying types of barcodes and specifications – and it can be difficult to make sense of it and pin point exactly what you need specifically for your business. We at SA Barcodes strive to not only serve you as best we can, but educate you. We would like you to leave with your purchase with a sense of understanding and knowledge of the industry, ready to approach your intended retailers – such as Saverite, Pick n’ Pay, Game, Jet, SPAR and many more – with your products.

So, what do you need for your products?

The most commonly used barcodes in retail stores are UPC and EAN barcodes. You’ll require this kind of barcodes for Mozambique in order to sell your products – local agricultural produce such as sugar, prawns and shrimps, and any other food items; clothing items; appliances; CDs and DVDs; etc. – at stores. We do advise however to check with your intended retailers on whether they prefer the UPC or EAN format as it tends to differ from store to store with suppliers having to compensate. SA Barcodes does however provide you with both the UPC and EAN versions of your barcode numbers for your convenience. The UPC format short for Universal Product Code is a 12 digit barcode and the EAN format short for European Article Number is a 13 digit barcode.

Your chosen retailer may also request that along with your product barcodes that you obtain codes for your cartons or delivery boxes that your products will be delivered in to the stores. This specific format of barcode is called an ITF-14 barcode and is used in the warehousing division. It is a 14 digit barcode that is linked and corresponds to the product barcode of the products packed into the cartons. The receiving staff will scan this barcode into the stores stock system upon arrival and this will automatically update the stores stock totals. It is vitally important that you stick to using the correct ITF-14 barcode for the correct carton, for example if you have a carton with 6 products in then it gets assigned a barcode and if you have another carton with 12 products in it gets a different ITF-14 barcode so that the store can load it appropriately and when these codes are scanned they know exactly how many products are in the box without having to manually count and check stock.

If you’re in the publishing industry, there are namely two types of barcodes that are required depending on your publication. For books, novels and once-off publications, an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is required. For magazines, newspapers and serial publications, an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) is required. Both numbers can be sourced from the National Library of Mozambique; however SA Barcodes offers the service of sourcing your numbers for you as well as designing the corresponding barcode images. If you’re not sure that either of the above mentioned barcodes are what you’re needing for your business specifically, our staff are available via email or phone call to answer any of your questions and assist you in moving forward. It is our mission to include your small business in the Mozambican economy and offer an alternate solution for getting products to market. Our prices are affordable and once-off – you’ll never have to pay any annual renewal fees because once purchased, the barcodes will belong to your entity for life. And it’s also guaranteed that you’ll receive them within one working day of receiving your proof of payment.
